How can we sell these fabulous shoes so cheaply?
We have negotiated with top New York department store chains to buy their end–of–season shoes. So your shoes come to you direct from New York city.
This is so perfect for Australian gals (and guys!). In fashion, we operate a season behind the Northern Hemisphere due to our different seasons. So if you’re lucky enough to land your size, you’ll be getting the current Australian season look...at a fraction of the price. We don’t know about you, but we think a fabulous shoe is a touch more fabulous when you get it at a bargain price!
Why should I buy shoes online?
Shoe shopping is often the most stressful form of shopping (ok, ok, bathing suits shopping is worse).
But shoe stores are often understaffed at busy times, you don’t know what’s available in your size until AFTER you’ve picked something you’d like and you have to sit around whilst shop assistants attempt to hunt down your shoes.
On top of this, we often head out shopping with a particular type of shoe in mind – a certain colour or a style to match an outfit. Which means you can have to traipse through too many shops, trying to hunt down the perfect shoe. All in all, it’s often less than a relaxing shopping experience!

Why should I buy shoes from overseas?
As you may or may not know, the Australian shoe retail market is very small. A handful of companies own most of our well known chains. Did you know, for example, the same company owns Midas, Mollini, Florsheim and Scooter? As a result, shopping in Australian shoes stores can have a deja vu feel – that is, you know you’ve seen that shoe before...in the store you were just in!
This means it can be a challenge in Australia to get unique, designer or bargain shoes. And that’s where Shop New York comes in!
PRICING & SIZING
How do I work out my size?
Almost shoes on the site are in US sizes, as they’re produced by US manufacturers.
If you’ve bought shoes from the US before, you’ll already know your size.
We’ve also listed an equivalent size in both an Australian size and a European size. So you can judge, based on your usual size, what you can order.
Don’t worry, you can return or exchange your shoes if they don’t fit!
Why does Shop New York list one price, then a sale price, for all shoes?
All of the shoes we sell have a list price and our special sale price. Both prices are less than the original retail price, but we like to throw in a little extra. So with our sale price, you’re really, really saving! Shop New York has all its shoes, on sale, all the time. Guilt free shoe shopping, ladies!
Why don’t you have the shoes I want in my size?
Sometimes we’re able to get a shoe in many sizes and sometimes we only have it in a one size, as that’s all we’re able to buy at the end of a season. So it’s best to sort by size at Shop New York, before you get your heart set on a fabulous pairs 2 sizes too small. Once you’ve sorted by size, you can then also search by colour or brand, showing you the shoes you want in your size only!
How can I pay for my shoes?
We offer PayPal as your payment method. If you don’t already have a PayPal account, it takes only a few days to set up. PayPal is free for you to use and allows you to pay directly from your bank account...which means you’re not racking up big credit card bills to shop online!
Due to the international nature of our business, we find that PayPal the best way for Australians to securely pay for purchases that are then shipped from the United States. If you are unable to pay with PayPal but would like to make a purchase, please contact us.
RETURNS & EXCHANGES
What if they shoes are the wrong size?
You can return them to our Australian offices (in Melbourne). If there’s another size available, we suggest you then order and pay for this. If you return the original shoes within 30 days, you’ll receive a full refund. If you return up 31–90 days, we’ll still offer you a Shop New York store credit.
How do I return shoes?
Very easily! You’ll be excited to know that you don’t need to pay international shipping to return the shoes – we have an office right here in Melbourne, Australia. We offer a refund if you return your shoes unworn within 30 days of receiving them, or we can offer you a Shop New York credit if you return 31–90 days from receiving them.
What is your returns policy?
All purchases can be returned for merchandise credit (90 days from receipt) or a cash refund (30 days from receipt). The only thing we can’t refund is the postage. Of course, shoes must be unworn (except on carpet) and in their original condition and packaging please.
Do you offer exchanges?
Unfortunately, we often can’t. No because we don’t want to, because we sometimes only have one or two of an item. If you want something else, we suggest you buy that when you see it (before someone else snaps it up), return the unworn shoes that don’t fit and we’ll refund the price of the return.
Do you provide a refund for change of mind?
Yes, we want you to have the best Shop New York experience and keep coming back. So we want you to be 100% satisfied. This means we’ll provide a refund (up to 30 days) and a credit (up to 90 days) for your shoes. The only thing we can’t refund or credit is postage.
SHIPPING & POSTAGE
Won’t it cost me a lot to ship the shoes all the way to Australia?
Absolutely not. We only charge A$9.99 to ship a pair of shoes to Australia! That’s cheaper than most Australian online stores charge to ship shoes – and less than you’ll pay to park in town if you want to shop.
Best of all, if you need to return the shoes, you don’t need to ship them from the US. You can return via post to our offices in Melbourne.
There’s also no duties or customs charges on orders coming into Australia that are under $1,000.
How is my order shipped to me & how long will it take?
We have partnered with the US Post Office and Australia Post for reliable and timely delivery. Most orders are shipped within 2 business days of payment and take approximately 7–10 days in transit.
What currency are your shoe prices in?
All our Shop New York prices are listed in Australian Dollars (AUD) so you know exactly what you are paying. Since our shoes are sold in the United States, the original prices are in US Dollars (USD) but are converted into AUD on our site, which is why our prices don’t end in ".00".
Based on currency fluctuations, our prices will change periodically, however you will always pay the amount shown on the website. Should you return an item, you will receive that same amount back in AUD. So here’s for the strong Aussie dollar, ladies!
How long will it take for my shoes to arrive?
Not long at all. We suggest you allow 7–10 for delivery, which isn’t too bad considering they’re travelling half way around the world!
Please note, over busy mail periods like Christmas, they may take a little longer (which is the postal service, not us).
Do I have to pay any duties or taxes.
For Australian buyers, there are no customs charges or taxes on orders under AUD$1,000.

Is your merchandise authentic?
Of course! Everything we sell is guaranteed authentic, first–quality, new merchandise sourced directly from manufacturers and retailers in the New York area.
Did you ever wonder what happens to a popular shoe when there are only a few pairs left in the store? These shoes are boxed up to make space for New Arrivals. Shop New York then buys these shoes at reduced prices to sell them to our online shoppers at reduced prices.

Do you only sell shoes?
At this time we are only selling upscale footwear from a company based in New York City. We are planning to add more selection in the future (handbags, anyone?) direct from New York City whenever possible.
How long has Shop New York been in business?
Shop New York has been trading for over a year, as we launched in 2008. We have sold to hundreds of happy customers, check out some testimonials that we’ve been sent from satisfied shoppers.
Are all your shoes from New York?
Our fashion team is located in New York City, the fashion center of the world! The Shop New York offices are on West 33rd Street in what is known as Manhattan’s "Fashion District". New York City is home to hundreds of fabulous designers and retailers which gives us access to an amazing variety of this seasons latest fashions.
We also work with warehouses outside of New York in order to provide our customers with the fastest and most economical shipping options so we can deliver designer fashion to you at great prices.
Who’s behind Shop New York?
Are you ready? It’s a man – one who obviously knows how much we ladies love shoes!
A frequent traveller to New York City over the years, internet entrepreneur Phil Leahy realised that Aussie gals and guys were missing out on the huge range of fashion footwear that was available to Manhattan–ites.
So he decided to do something about it and created ShopNewYork.com.au . A website where his friends could enjoy the quality and variety of New York City designer fashion – and still get fast, discounted shipping and easy, local returns. Thanks for thinking of us, Phil!
Through his extensive business contacts, Phil was able to locate reputable New York City retailers who were willing to ship to Australia and arranged to get their products on the Shop New York website. Since all orders would be shipping from the states, Phil also negotiated special rates with Australia Post in order to save Australian shoppers money on shipping.
Finally, to ensure that the customer service was top–notch, Phil setup an office in Melbourne that could assist with customer questions (and can be reached at 03 9005 6399). The office also collects payments by local mail and receives any merchandise returns, saving his friends – and you – time and money.
Currently Shop New York is working with a large shoe company headquartered in New York City that sells amazing brands. Eventually more product lines will be added to provide our shoppers with a wide variety of upscale and designer merchandise.
